Food Processing Sector's Impact on Employment Generation

The food processing sector in India is a significant contributor to employment and economic growth, accounting for 12.91% of employment in the organized manufacturing sector according to the Annual Survey of Industries 2022-23. The sector also contributes 20.4% to agri-food exports and holds a 7.93% share in Manufacturing Gross Value Added (GVA). Growth has been supported by Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) through schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana, Production Linked Incentive Scheme, and PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises scheme, collectively generating millions of direct and indirect job opportunities across the country.
