Forest Rights Act Ensures Security for Tribal Dwellers
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, led by Union Minister Shri Jual Oram, reaffirmed the provisions of the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, during a Lok Sabha session. This Act secures forest rights for tribal groups, ensuring no eviction from occupied forest lands without a completed recognition process. Additionally, the National Tiger Conservation Authority reported no displacements from tiger reserves, emphasizing informed consent and compliance with wildlife protection laws. As of October 2025, over 51 million claims under the Act have been processed, with a considerable distribution of titles achieved.
