Government Accelerates Ethanol Blending with Enhanced Production and Infrastructure

The Indian government has expedited its ethanol blending target, moving the goal of 20% ethanol in petrol from 2030 to the Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) 2025-26. The Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme has seen an average blending of 19.05% as of July 2025. To support this initiative, the government is expanding feedstock sources, including maize and rice, and has introduced various schemes to boost ethanol production and infrastructure, including price mechanisms and financial assistance for advanced biofuels projects.
