Government Approves 25 Lakh Additional LPG Connections Under PMUY for FY 2025-26
The Indian government has sanctioned 2.5 million additional LPG connections for the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) for the fiscal year 2025-26. This initiative aims to clear pending applications and ensure comprehensive LPG access nationwide. The eligibility for obtaining these connections has been simplified to adult women from poor households, requiring a 'Deprivation Declaration'. To make LPG more affordable, the government provides a targeted subsidy of ₹300 per 14.2 kg cylinder for up to nine refills annually. Studies indicate that PMUY has positively impacted rural women's lives by reducing reliance on biomass fuels, improving health, and freeing up time for economic activities, thus enhancing nutrition and contributing to environmental conservation.
