Government Boosts Cooperative Movement, Expands PACS Initiatives
The Indian Government has enacted a comprehensive plan to strengthen cooperative movements nationwide by registering 30,083 new Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), dairy, and fishery cooperative societies by November 2025, with significant expansions into central schemes and diversification into organic produce and fisheries. The Ministry of Cooperation introduced ERP-enabled systems to integrate PACS with schemes such as PM-KISAN, resulting in thousands of PACS functioning as service centers and participating in agriculture and health-related distribution. New national cooperative organizations, like NCOL and NCEL, focus on organic and export activities, while extensive monitoring ensures effective scheme implementation. Through further central scheme eligibility for PACS and infrastructural developments, the government aims to raise farmers' incomes and enhance self-reliance.
