Government Boosts Cooperative Movement in India
The Ministry of Cooperation has launched a comprehensive plan to revitalize and expand the cooperative movement across India, focusing on establishing and strengthening primary agriculture cooperative societies (PACS), dairy, and fishery societies at the grassroots level. This initiative, approved on February 15, 2023, has led to the registration of over 30,083 new cooperative societies and the strengthening of 15,793 existing ones by November 2025. The project is supported by major Indian financial and development bodies, and features a structured Standard Operating Procedure, Margdarshika, for implementation. The scheme aims for significant cooperative establishment in states like Rajasthan, highlighting effective collaboration between government and financial institutions.
