Government Enhances Disaster Alert System With Prasar Bharati

The Indian Government has expanded its last-mile outreach for disaster alerts and welfare schemes dissemination through Prasar Bharati, the country's public broadcaster. Utilizing the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP), disaster alerts in regional languages are broadcast via various media including SMS and mobile apps. Through platforms such as DD FreeDish, the NewsOnAir app, and the WAVES OTT platform, these alerts, along with government scheme information, are disseminated to rural and border regions. Community readiness is also being reinforced through electronic media and public engagements like street plays. The initiative aims to ensure geographically-targeted and timely information delivery, strengthening community resilience against disasters.
