Government Enhances Disaster Alerts & Welfare Access through Prasar Bharati
The Government of India is enhancing its last-mile outreach for disaster alerts and welfare schemes, particularly in rural, remote, and border areas, through the public broadcaster Prasar Bharati. This includes wide dissemination via FM, medium wave, and shortwave radio networks, terrestrial TV, and digital platforms. Disaster alerts are issued in regional languages to ensure effective communication. The initiative is further supported by the National Disaster Management Authority's Common Alerting Protocol-based Integrated Alert System. Efforts are being made to strengthen community preparedness with awareness initiatives using various media. The government also launched WAVES OTT platform for live streaming of broadcast channels, and expanded DD FreeDish coverage to enhance access in rural areas.
