Government Enhances Fire Services Across States With New Scheme
The Indian Central Government, following suggestions from the Fifteenth Finance Commission, has initiated a comprehensive "Scheme for Expansion and Modernisation of Fire Services in the States," allocating Rs. 5000 crore to bolster state fire services. This initiative requires 25% state funding, with a reduced 10% from North-Eastern and Himalayan states. The scheme supports developing new fire stations, acquiring advanced firefighting equipment, and enhancing firefighter training infrastructure. As of January 31, 2026, Rs.1798.20 crore has been disbursed to states. Additionally, institutions like the National Fire Service College in Nagpur continue to offer advanced training programs contributing to systemic capacity building.
