Government Enhances Internet Connectivity in Panchayats through BharatNet
The Indian government is intensifying efforts to enhance digital infrastructure in Gram Panchayats by rolling out extensive internet connectivity under the BharatNet Programme. The initiative, overseen by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the Department of Telecommunications, ensures the provision of Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) connections and offers broadband services through various service providers. As of the latest update, 2.18 lakh out of 2.69 lakh Gram Panchayats are reportedly service-ready, backed by a significant investment of over ₹22,001 crore over five years.
