Government Enhances Port Infrastructure under PM GatiShakti and Sagarmala Programmes

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, under the PM GatiShakti and Sagarmala programmes, is making significant strides in bolstering India’s port infrastructure. Key initiatives include integrated planning through the GIS-based PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, development of inland waterways via the National Waterways Regulations 2025 and Jal Samriddhi portal, and the promotion of green shipping with the Harit Sagar Green Port Guidelines and Green Tug Transition Program. These efforts have led to an increase in cargo handling capacity at major ports and improved the efficiency of cargo movement via inland waterways.
