Government Increases Onion Procurement Price to Benefit Farmers

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution has raised the onion procurement price for the Price Stabilisation Buffer by 13%, increasing it from ₹1,875 to ₹2,125 per quintal, effective from July 4, 2026. This move aims to provide better returns to onion farmers and aid in buffer procurement. Despite a delay in the monsoon and speculative buying among traders, onion production remains stable, and no immediate shortage is expected. Onion exports continue normally, although they may slow down due to competition from regions like Pakistan and China.
