Government Initiative Boosts Multipurpose Cooperative Entities in Rural India
The Indian government has initiated a comprehensive effort to transform Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) into multipurpose cooperative entities to bolster rural economies. In agriculture, through the Model Bye-laws, PACS can undertake over 25 business activities, enhancing farmer profitability through initiatives like grain storage plans and PM Kisan Samriddhi Kendras. The dairy sector sees growth through White Revolution 2.0, expanding cooperative coverage. Furthermore, 1,000 fisheries cooperatives are transitioning to Fish Farmer Producer Organisations to enhance market linkages. Approximately 32,802 new cooperative societies were established, with numerous inclusive reforms enhancing participation by women and marginalized groups.
