Government Initiatives for Accessible Legal Services for Persons with Disabilities
The Indian Government, through the Ministry of Law and Justice, has introduced various measures to ensure accessible, quality, and expedited legal services for all, including persons with disabilities. This includes implementing the Legal Services Authorities Act, providing free legal aid, and deploying a specialized scheme through the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) tailored for individuals with mental and intellectual disabilities. Additionally, infrastructure initiatives for courts have been made more inclusive to accommodate disabled-friendly designs in line with specific accessibility standards. A significant digital transformation under the eCourts Project Phase III further aims to enhance accessibility for persons with disabilities, featuring ICT facilities and more user-friendly court websites.
