Government Initiatives for Enhancing Maize Cultivation and Productivity
The Indian Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare has implemented various initiatives to boost maize production across the country. The National Food Security & Nutrition Mission aims to expand maize cultivation and improve productivity in 28 states and 2 union territories. Funding allocations from 2020 to 2025 reveal a gradual increase, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting maize farmers through subsidies and training. Additionally, the Minimum Support Price for maize has been raised to incentivize cultivation. The Ministry of Food Processing Industries supports maize-based value addition and market linkages through specific schemes. Research projects led by the ICAR and related institutes contribute significantly to developing high-yielding, stress-tolerant maize varieties.
