Government Initiatives for Persons with Disabilities

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has launched several schemes to support Persons with Disabilities (PwD) in India. The Niramaya Health Insurance Scheme offers up to ₹1 lakh coverage without pre-insurance medical tests. The PM-JAY scheme provides cashless health coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per year for over 12 crore poor families, including those with disabled members. Additionally, the National Policy for Rare Diseases, 2021, offers financial assistance of up to ₹50 lakhs for treatment of 63 rare diseases at designated Centers of Excellence, alleviating the financial burden on affected families.
