The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying has implemented the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, 2023, to manage the stray dog population through neutering and vaccination. Municipalities are mandated to execute the ABC Programme, ensuring safety from stray dog attacks, especially for children. The National Rabies Control Programme (NRCP) has also been launched to address dog bites and rabies, with significant financial support for anti-rabies vaccines. The government emphasizes community involvement and has issued various guidelines to manage stray dogs effectively.
