Government Initiatives to Boost India's Pharmaceutical Sector
The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has launched several schemes to enhance India's pharmaceutical sector, aiming for self-reliance and innovation. Key initiatives include the PRIP scheme with ₹5,000 crore funding for research and development, the PLI Scheme to boost manufacturing capabilities, and the Bulk Drug Parks Scheme to reduce import dependence. Over six years, drug exports have surged by 92%, reflecting the success of these initiatives. The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana scheme has also made quality medicines affordable, saving citizens approximately ₹38,000 crore.
