Government Initiatives to Boost Women Participation in STEM

The Indian government is actively promoting women's participation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) through a series of initiatives and programs. Despite women constituting 43% of total enrolments in STEM at higher education levels, only 18.6% of the workforce in STEM fields are women. The government initiatives, such as Vigyan Jyoti, WISE-KIRAN, and the BioCARe Fellowship among others, provide scholarships, fellowships, internships, leadership development, and specialized training to encourage continuity and advancement for women in STEM careers. These efforts aim to address dropout rates, offer re-entry opportunities, and enhance leadership skills and research capabilities among women scientists.
