Government Initiatives to Enhance Healthcare Access and Quality
The Government of India is actively reviewing and revising health benefit packages under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) to align with clinical evidence and emerging healthcare needs. Recent updates include the addition of 1,961 procedures across 27 specialties. The government has established a framework to ensure quality in empanelled private hospitals, incentivizing those meeting high standards. Additionally, the establishment of over 177,000 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) aims to provide comprehensive healthcare services, including free essential drugs and diagnostics. Various incentives are also offered to attract healthcare professionals to rural areas, reinforcing the commitment to improve healthcare access and quality nationwide.
