Government Initiatives to Enhance Internet Connectivity in Rural Areas
The Ministry of Communications has announced several initiatives aimed at improving internet connectivity in rural areas, including the Gen-Next Support for Innovative Startups (GENESIS) program, the India Business Process Outsourcing Promotion Scheme (IBPS), and the establishment of Software Technology Parks in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. As of March 2025, India has 969.10 million internet subscribers, with 407.69 million in rural areas. The government has also launched the 4G Saturation Projects and the Amended BharatNet Program to provide better mobile and broadband services in underserved villages.
