Government Initiatives to Enhance Medical Education in India
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has reported significant improvements in medical education, including an increase in medical colleges from 387 to 780 and a rise in undergraduate and postgraduate seats. Currently, there are 13,86,157 registered allopathic doctors and 7,51,768 AYUSH practitioners, with a doctor-population ratio of 1:811. The government is also addressing regional disparities by establishing new medical colleges and upgrading existing ones, with 71 out of 75 PMSSY projects completed and 19 of 22 AIIMS starting undergraduate courses.
