Government Initiatives to Enhance Telecom Services in Rural Areas

The Indian government has launched several initiatives to improve telecom services in rural and remote areas, including the BharatNet project, which aims to provide broadband connectivity to over 214,000 Gram Panchayats. The Amended BharatNet Program has been approved for further upgrades, while various mobile projects have led to the commissioning of over 21,000 mobile towers. Additionally, submarine optical fibre cables have been installed to enhance connectivity in the Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep Islands. A total of Rs.90,813.58 crore has been disbursed for these projects as of June 2025.
