Government Initiatives to Enhance Tribal Welfare in India
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs in India, led by Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Shri Durgadas Uikey, has outlined various developmental schemes aimed at uplifting Scheduled Tribes (STs) across the country, including Tamil Nadu. The Development Action Plan for Scheduled Tribes (DAPST) is central to this effort, involving multiple government departments in initiatives such as education, health, and agriculture. Key programs include the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyay Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN) and DhartiAabaJanjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA), aiming to bridge infrastructural and socio-economic gaps. State-specific schemes, like Tamil Nadu's TholkudiAithinai Program, are also contributing significantly to tribal livelihoods and skill development.
