Government of India Promotes Indigenous Cow Breeds Under Rashtriya Gokul Mission

The Government of India, through the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, is spearheading the Rashtriya Gokul Mission to boost the conservation, genetic improvement, production, and marketing of indigenous cow breeds like Gir, Sahiwal, and Kankrej among others. This initiative enhances milk production and productivity, benefiting farmers nationwide. Key measures include the Nationwide Artificial Insemination Programme, the introduction of sex-sorted semen for better yield and controlled cattle population, and the use of In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) technology for breeding.
