Government Promotes DPDP Act for Better Data Protection and Compliance

The Government of India, through the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has announced the notification of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and its rules effective from November 13, 2025. This initiative establishes a simplified compliance framework beneficial for start-ups and certain data fiduciaries. The legislation sets out timelines for implementing these provisions and establishes a Digital Data Protection Board. Furthermore, the Act allows the Government to restrict personal data transfer to specific jurisdictions. The Ministry is also undertaking comprehensive awareness and capacity-building programs to ensure widespread understanding and adoption of the law. This was shared by Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Shri Jitin Prasada, to the Lok Sabha on December 3, 2025.
