Government Promotes Women's Participation in Governance

The Government of India is enhancing women's participation in local governance and political leadership through various initiatives. The percentage of women contesting elections has risen from 3% in 1957 to 10% in 2024. Landmark legislation, the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam', reserves one-third of seats for women in Parliament and State Assemblies. The 'Sashakt Panchayat-Netri Abhiyan' aims to strengthen Women Elected Representatives, while the Model Women-Friendly Gram Panchayats Initiative promotes gender equality in rural areas.
