Government Pushes for Aadhaar Seeding to Streamline PM-KISAN Payments
The PM-KISAN scheme, launched by the Prime Minister in 2019, provides an annual benefit of ₹6,000 to farmers with eligible landholding. This financial aid is distributed through Direct Benefit Transfer into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. As of February 2026, payments through this system have totaled ₹4.09 lakh crore across 21 installments. However, a significant number of farmers are yet to link their bank accounts with Aadhaar, preventing them from receiving these benefits. In response, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare is collaborating with State governments, Common Service Centres, and India Post Payments Bank to address this issue. The Ministry recently provided data showing the number of affected farmers by state, with Uttar Pradesh having the highest at over a million.
