Government Reaffirms Transparent Film Certification Process under Cinematograph Act

The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting reaffirms that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has certified nearly 72,000 films over the last five years, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations. The certification process respects creative freedom while safeguarding national interests as prescribed by the Cinematograph Act of 1952 and its subsequent rules and guidelines. Appeals against CBFC decisions can be made to the High Court, which assesses them through judicial review. These details were presented in the Rajya Sabha by Dr. L. Murugan, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting.
