Government Schemes Boost Small-Scale Food Processing Units in India

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has been instrumental in promoting small-scale food processing industries across India through various incentive-based schemes. The Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY), Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI), and PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) are key initiatives driving this effort. These schemes are demand-driven and aim to boost micro and small food processing enterprises nationwide, including in states like Uttar Pradesh. Since their inception, thousands of food processing projects have been sanctioned under these schemes. Additionally, the Government of India established the Food Processing Fund for affordable credit to support the industry's growth in designated food parks. Financial assistance under the PMFME scheme has notably benefited districts like Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, with substantial capital investment in over 550 micro enterprises. The absence of specific data on the reduction of local units due to multinational companies highlights the continued emphasis on indigenous food processing growth. This was detailed by Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, Shri Ravneet Singh, to the Lok Sabha.
