Government Strengthens Old Dams Inspection and Rehabilitation Efforts

The Ministry of Jal Shakti has outlined significant measures to enhance the safety and operational performance of dams across India, particularly focusing on those over fifty years old. As part of the Dam Safety Act, 2021, annual inspections are mandated, categorizing dams into three levels of urgency. The Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) Phases II and III are key initiatives in this effort, targeting 736 dams with a budget of Rs. 10,211 crores. Recent inspections have classified three dams in the highest risk category, demanding immediate attention.
