Government Tackles Risks of Fake and Misleading Content on Digital Platforms
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has affirmed its commitment to curbing the spread of fake, false, and misleading content on digital platforms by implementing stringent guidelines under the Information Technology Act, 2000. These include the IT Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code Rules, 2021, which require OTT platforms to adhere to content moderation and ethical publishing standards. A Fact Check Unit under the Press Information Bureau is also active in combating fake news related to the Central Government. The move aligns with the constitutional right to freedom of speech while ensuring responsible content dissemination.
