Government's Support for Farmers through MSP and PM-AASHA
The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has outlined provisions under the National Policy for Agriculture Marketing (NPFAM) to support farmers, particularly small and marginal ones. The government fixes the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 22 agricultural crops annually, ensuring a minimum return of 50% over the average cost of production. From 2014-15 to 2024-25, the government has procured over 315 LMT of agricultural produce worth approximately Rs. 1.69 lakh crore. The Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay SanraksHan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA) is also being implemented to guarantee remunerative prices for farmers, especially for pulses, oilseeds, and copra.
