The introduction of GPS devices in Car Nicobar by the Central Island Technological Research Institute, under the Department of Science and Technology's SEED Division programme, has significantly improved the efficiency of fishing for local communities. This has facilitated a steady fish supply, increasing both nutritional intake and income for families in the region. A 168% increase in daily catch volume has been reported, allowing fishermen like Mr Junaid and Mr Abdul Sattar to sell surplus catches in local markets, further boosting their livelihood.
