Groundwater Conservation Efforts Show Positive Impact in Karnataka
The latest assessment by the Central Ground Water Board indicates significant progress in groundwater conservation efforts across Karnataka. Five districts are now categorized as over-exploited, two as critical, and six as semi-critical. The Indian government's Jal Shakti Abhiyan and the new Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari initiative have made notable improvements, resulting in a statewide reduction in the Stage of Groundwater Extraction from 68.44% in 2024 to 66.49% in 2025. These efforts aim to promote rainwater harvesting and community-driven solutions for sustainable water management.
