Growth in Cornea Collection and Functionality of Eye Banks
In a recent update from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, it was noted that India has 396 functional eye banks across the country. The National Programme for Control of Blindness & Visual Impairment (NPCBVI) plays a vital role in bolstering these services. The programme provides support for infrastructure and promotes eye donations effectively, leading to a rise in cornea collection numbers, which have grown steadily from 62,370 in 2022-23 to 69,848 in 2024-25.
