High Levels of Selenium in Groundwater Reported by CGWB
The Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) has reported that out of 5,956 groundwater samples analyzed across 17 States/UTs, only four samples from Jhajjar district in Haryana and Rupnagar district in Punjab exceeded the permissible selenium limit of 10 ppb. The Government of India, through the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), aims to provide safe drinking water to rural households and has implemented measures for water quality monitoring and community awareness programs. The JJM also encourages the installation of community water purification plants in affected areas.
