ICG Responds to Oil Spill from Sunken Vessel Off Kerala Coast

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has effectively managed the oil leak from the sunken container vessel MSC ELSA 3 near Alappuzha, Kerala, preventing any oil from reaching the shoreline as of May 26, 2025. Approximately 46 cargo containers have washed ashore across three districts, with more debris anticipated. The ICG has deployed multiple vessels and conducted aerial surveillance to monitor the situation, while coordinating with local authorities to prepare for potential pollution scenarios.
