IIA Celebrates 10 Years of AstroSat's UVIT

The Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) celebrated a decade of successful operations of the UltraViolet Imaging Telescope (UVIT) on AstroSat, India's first dedicated space observatory, launched by ISRO on September 28, 2015. As India's only UV space telescope capable of observing in the far-UV, apart from the Hubble Space Telescope, UVIT has significantly contributed to celestial discoveries, observing 1,451 targets and aiding more than 300 research articles and 19 PhDs. The IIA commemorated the event with a workshop on December 4, 2025, discussing the telescope's achievements and exploring future projects like the INSIST space telescope. Key scientific discoveries facilitated by UVIT include studying phenomena within the Andromeda galaxy, dwarf galaxies, and young star formation in distant galaxies.
