The Companies Act, 2013, lays the groundwork for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, mandating broader responsibilities for companies. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has strengthened ESG oversight by requiring top listed companies to adhere to Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting (BRSR) standards, enhancing transparency and accountability in corporate governance.
