IMD Enhances Weather Forecasting Services for Indian Farmers
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has upgraded its weather forecasting services available to farmers across India by leveraging digital and communication technologies. These upgrades, highlighted by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh in the Lok Sabha, include the dissemination of weather forecasts through mobile apps and IT platforms. More than 21 million farmers now have access to precise weather data essential for agricultural decision-making, under initiatives such as Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa (GKMS) and Panchayat-level forecasting programs.
