IMD's Accurate Monsoon Forecasting Supported by Upgraded Systems

The Indian Meteorological Department's (IMD) seasonal forecasts for the 2024 and 2025 southwest monsoon seasons were notably accurate, with the actual rainfall closely aligning with their predictions. For both years, monsoon predictions were above normal across much of India, supporting strong agricultural outputs. Enhancements in IMD's forecasting systems, including advanced radar and weather stations, have contributed to these accurate forecasts. The government continues to modernize India's meteorological infrastructure to cover 87% of the country with radar systems and plans further expansions.
