Impact and Efficiency of Fast Track Courts in India

The Fast Track Courts and Fast Track Special Courts in India, set up by States and Union Territories in consultation with their respective High Courts, aim to accelerate the trial and disposal of cases involving serious crimes and sensitive subjects. The 14th Finance Commission recommended 1,800 Fast Track Courts from 2015-2020, and 880 are operational as of December 2025, resolving over four million cases in the last three years. Additionally, the Fast Track Special Courts established in 2019 focus on cases under the POCSO Act and have shown remarkable efficiency, with evaluations recommending their continuation due to their significant impact on reducing case backlogs and expediting justice for women and children. Current data shows significant disposal rates, reflecting the scheme's key achievements in aligning with national priorities around justice and safety.
