Impact of Jal Jeevan Mission in India
The Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), initiated by the Government of India in collaboration with States/UTs, aims to provide every rural household with functional tap water connections. Since its inception in 2019, the initiative has seen remarkable success, expanding its reach from 3.24 crore connections to 15.79 crore households by early 2026. This has significantly transformed rural lives, reducing time spent on water collection and improving health outcomes. The mission has also fostered community involvement through Village Water and Sanitation Committees and emphasized water quality monitoring and transparency. Its extension to 2028 reflects its ongoing importance.
