Implementation of Forest Rights Act by Ministry of Tribal Affairs

The Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Shri Durgadas Uikey, reported in Rajya Sabha that the implementation of the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, is the responsibility of State Governments across 20 States and 1 Union Territory. As of May 31, 2025, 211,609 community claims have been filed, with 82.58% disposed of. The Ministry monitors progress and provides guidelines to ensure proper implementation. Special provisions exist to protect tribal interests in land acquisition and management, with significant funds allocated for projects benefiting affected communities.
