Implementation of Garima Grehs for Transgender Persons

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has established 18 Garima Grehs across 15 States/UTs to provide shelter and support for transgender persons. With the approval of 3 new Garima Grehs in the financial year 2025-26, the initiative aims to offer amenities such as food, medical care, and skill development. Currently, 429 individuals reside in these shelters, which also include mental health support through the Tele MANAS initiative. A total of Rs 8.25 Crores has been allocated under the SMILE Scheme to enhance the welfare of transgender persons.
