The Government of India, in collaboration with states, has been executing the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) since August 2019, aiming to provide potable water to every rural household through functional tap water connections. As of July 21, 2025, the initiative has successfully connected approximately 12.44 crore additional rural households, raising the total to over 15.67 crore, which is about 80.94% of the total rural households in the country.
