Improvement Notice Mechanism Debuts Under Legal Metrology Act
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has launched an Improvement Notice mechanism under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, as part of the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2026. This new approach allows businesses the chance to correct specific first-time procedural and regulatory mistakes before facing penalties, thereby promoting ease of doing business and emphasizing a trust-based governance model while maintaining consumer protection. The reform targets manufacturing, importing, trading, and service sectors, excluding repeated or fraudulent violations.
