Increase in Employment Generation in India

The Ministry of Labour & Employment reports an increase in the Worker Population Ratio (WPR) and a decrease in the Unemployment Rate (UR) in India from 2020-21 to 2023-24. The WPR for individuals aged 15 and above rose from 52.6% to 58.2%, while the UR decreased from 4.2% to 3.2%. Additionally, female WPR has shown a significant upward trend, reaching 40.3% in 2023-24. Overall, employment in India increased to 64.33 crore in 2023-24 compared to 47.5 crore in 2017-18, indicating positive growth in the labor market.
