Increase in Forest Cover in India

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change reported a significant increase in India's forest and tree cover, as per the India State of Forest Report (ISFR) 2023. The total forest and tree cover now stands at 827,356.95 square kilometers, accounting for 25.17% of the country's geographical area. This marks an increase of 1,445.81 square kilometers since 2021, with a net increase of 16,630.25 square kilometers over the past decade. Various government policies and programs, including the 'Plant4Mother' campaign, have contributed to this growth, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of state governments and local communities in forest conservation and management.
